Steady your Phone
To take better photos in low light the best thing you can do is to keep your mobile phone very still. At night time there is obviously less light so the automatic camera in your mobile phone will need a longer exposure time as any movement with the phone during exposure will create a blurred image.
Using a tripod such as our Dinopod will prevent any movement when taking photographs at night. Our Snap Remote also allows you to take a photo without touching your mobile phone, avoiding additional movement, once the shot it set up. The Dinopod is really small and can fit neatly into a handbag so it is not a hassle to carry it around to use to shoot at night.
Turn off HDR Mode
Use HDR mode sparingly at night too as it takes a bunch of photos with different exposures and then combines those photos into a single picture. At night the long exposure of the multiple photos will often create a blurred image. If you are going to use HDR mode on your phone at nighttime you can avoid this by using our Dinopod or resting/balancing the phone on a stable surface to take your photo.
We strongly recommend that you do not zoom with your mobile phone at night as the zoom function crops and enlarges the image creating a blurry and pixilated image. If you need to zoom at all with your smartphone we recommend using the SnapLens Pro telephoto lens as it creates a perfect x2 zoom without the pixilation.
